Fishing Report - December 7, 2007

Fishing continues to be great, weather permitting. We are catching limits of trout and some reds on most days provided the tides are good.

If you haven't tried the Midcoast Products "Inticer" corks, you really need to give them a try. We are using them with a Norton or DOA Shrimp under them and the fish will nearly take the rod out of your hands at times. Any color with some sparkle in it seems to work well.

We have also had pretty good luck with LSU Norton Sand Eel Jr.'s and a light jig head. Been staying up north most of the time; but there is some really good fishing in West Bay at this time also.

The flounder are really hitting well at the Yacht Basin also. Try a gulp 2" minnow grub on a light jig head dragged slowly across the bottom. If you will rig your reel with Power Pro braid, you will have a much better chance of feeling the bite. Using this grub, you don't have to wait for the flounder to swallow the bait, as it is short enough that they already have the hook in their mount when they hit it. Make sure to use a shock leader with the braided line so you don't break a rod!

Give us a call and come out and enjoy the terrific winter fishing. A lot less crowds and the fishing is great!

Learn the Bay Classes:

I am conducting one-on-one classes of the Galveston Bay System. You pick the bay and we will spend a half-day trip exploring that bay and the techniques and timing of fishing there. Bring your hand-held GPS and a map and note pad and I will try to further your knowledge of the bay you choose.
