... I went on a deep sea fishing trip with one of your sponsors,
Captain Terry. In all my life I have never had a better fishing
trip. Myself and two other people chartered his boat for nine
hours. We would have stayed on the boat and fished for another nine hours
but he had already booked a trip that Saturday evening.
We went out approximately 18 miles and tied on to an oil rig.
Within seconds of dropping out first line we were all catching big
fish. I will try to list below some of the big fish we caught bit it
is going to be hard because I assume we caught over 75 fish.
- Eight (8) Red Snappers - approximately 5lbs. to 7lbs. each
- One (1) Red Snapper - approximately 17 lbs.
- Seven (7) Red Fish - approximately 20 lbs. to 22 lbs. [released]
- One (1) Red Fish - approximately 50 lbs. [released]
- Four (4) Jack Fish - approximately 25 lbs. each
- Fifty (50) Trigger Fish - approximately 2 lbs. to 3 lbs. each
In addition to the above fish we landed, we also hooked on to four fish
that we fought for well over tens minutes. The fish were so big and
because we are not deep sea fishing experts the line broke. I equate
the fight to trying to pull a house with a rope.
Captain Terry provided everything. Fishing poles, tackle, bait
and ice. If one of us were having problems setting the hook he would
do it and then give the pole to real the fish in. At the end of the
day, he cleaned every fish and packaged them.
Not only was this a great trip, Captain Terry was also a great
person. He probably enjoyed watching and helping us catch all the
fish more than we enjoyed catching them. He is very nice, polite,
and eager to please. He also is extremely safe and that is very
important 18 miles from land.
The ironic part of the trip is that it is still early in the season for
deep sea fishing. Everyone we spoke with said it gets much better in
June, July and August I can't imagine a better trip but I going to
try because I am booking another trip in just a few weeks.
