Welcome to the grain belt of Texas. Central Texas' Wintering Goose populations have increased by leaps and bounds due to the vast wheat, corn, and Milo fields that blanket the rolling plains of Central Texas. With the depletion of some of the bay prairie rice fields Waterfowl has turned to our untapped resources in recent years. Grain fields and large soil conservation lakes, that are scattered across our Prairie's give geese prime wintering habitat. It is also a plus to be in the Heart of the Central Flyway in Texas. Snows, Blues, Ross, Specks, and Canada's all winter in Central Texas. In recent years we have seen a steady increase in the numbers of Specks and Canada's in the area. As you may or may not know, the number of the light geese is at an alarming high number. In response to the potentially dangerous numbers, most areas have had very liberal bag limits. When Central TX Goose Hunting, we have had a limit of 20 light geese, 3 Canada's, and 2 Specks for the past few years. But don't be fooled. Light geese are not easy to harvest. With the increase in numbers of birds, safety also comes in numbers when Central Texas Guided Goose Hunting. This means larger spreads are necessary. The average age of the migrating light goose has also increased to an amazing high. Harvested adult snow and blue geese have consistently been aged at 10+ years. This equates to well educate birds. Consistently harvesting these geese requires quality decoys, the right set up, skilled calling, and good weather. Some people are drawn to Texas goose hunting for the liberal bag limits and rightfully so. But let's not loose sight of the quality of Goose Hunting in Texas by basing it entirely on the number of geese harvested. Light goose conservation season has been in practice for the past seven years. Conservation season has been another effort to reduce the population of the light geese. During this special season there are no bag limits, no possession limits, you may pull the plug from your shotguns, and we can use electronic calls when Goose Hunting in Texas. Conservation season starts around the third or fourth week of January and ends in late March. Clients need to bring proper clothing. As said in Texas, if you don't like the weather, just wait 10 minutes and it will change. Be fore you leave to come here for Goose Hunting in TX, be sure to get an update of our local weather and then be prepared for it to change once you get here. It is also your responsibility to have the proper Texas hunting license, State and Federal waterfowl stamp, and the propershot. It is against the law to use anything besides approved non-toxic shot. |
