Central Texas is in the top three areas in Texas for wild hog concentrations. The year around agriculture provides a never-ending food resource for hogs. This region of Texas is also covered with rivers, creeks, and private lakes. So, with the heavy vegetation, vast agriculture, and plenty of water it's easy to see why we have a high hog population for Central TX Hog Hunting. We offer our clients several choices in hunting methods. Stand hunting is a popular choice. We use elevated tent and box blinds placed in a high traffic area with a feeder or food plot. Once hogs start to traffic a feeder or food plot you can generally guess at a time they might come in to feed. When Hog Hunting in Texas, we use game cameras to establish this estimated time. If hogs come to the feeders between 7 pm and 9 pm you will want to be in the stand at 6 pm and not leave until 10 pm or later. Hog movement changes mainly due to weather conditions. Heat is the primary factor when Central Texas Guided Hog Hunting. Therefore, if they have been moving in the 70-degree temps and it rains, then it is very possible for them to move early and visa versa if the temps spike to an unusual high. Spot and stalk is another method we use at times of the year when hogs are active in day light hours. We will glass large fields or travel routs. When a hog is spotted when Texas Hog Hunting, we then stalk into range and attempt the harvest. A very exciting method of hog hunting is hunting with dogs. Hunting hogs with dogs is a lot like any other hunting with dogs. When the dogs find hogs, the bay dogs try to contain them until the catch dogs get there. The catch dogs will catch the hog usually by the ear and holds them until we get there. When we get to where the hog is caught, we (the guides) will throw the hog and then the client can harvest the hog. Another method we use is spot lighting. This is a fun and exciting hunt. The clients will be on a safari rack on the back of the guide's truck. We idle around the fields at night and look for hogs for Hog Hunting in Texas. Once hogs are found, you can attempt the harvest. There are very few laws in Texas on hog hunting. As a sport hunter you need only a resident or non-resident five-day small game license. There is no bag limits set by the state of Texas. Each ranch and/or the outfitter set all bag limits. Any legal firearm, bow & arrow, or spear/knife may be used to harvest wild hogs. We do have recommendations on calibers though. Hogs are very dense animals. They have very thick hide, a layer of fat and cartilage armor, the rib cage, and then finally the vitals. I have yet to see a common caliber too big for Texas Hog Hunting. But, .22, .243, & 25 calibers are all on the small side. You can successfully harvest hogs with these calibers with a well-placedearshot. We recommend that you use a .30 caliber or magnum cartridge (i.e.7mm rem mag, 300 mag, 30/60, 30/30 ect). Things a client needs to bring: 1. Proper clothing for the weather conditions. 2. A scope mounted light or night vision scope. 3. Legal firearm or bow 4. Bug spray (non-scented) 5. Water, snacks, day pack. |
